Grading at Ren

Standards-Based Grading

At Renaissance we use standards-based grading. In each course there are learning standards (called Learning Targets) that students are working towards mastering. Every assignment measures a students' progress towards one or more of the class' standards. Instead of receiving traditional grades of A, B, C, D, and F on individual assignments, students receive a score from 1-4, which communicates to them their progress towards meeting and mastering that standard.

Students' individual assignment scores for each Learning Target are then trended by the teacher to create an overall Learning Target (LT) Score that represents each students' level of mastery of that target.

Students' overall grades in a class are calculated by averaging the overall LT scores for each Learning Target and their Habit of Work scores.
